Warren Young - 2011
Mar 04, 2011

Warren retired from the Travis County Sheriff's Office in  January 2011 after becoming ill and being diagnosed with Cancer.  For those of you who had the opportunity to know Warren, you know he was a caring person who always had a story to tell or advice to give.  He treated people with love and respect and rarely became upset when dealing with issues.  The halls and corridors of Travis County won't be the same without him.  For nearly 20 years, Warren roamed those halls and corridors giving advice, spreading wisdom and talking to anyone who would listen and when that didn't work, he would give you a chuckle.

His funeral service today was really a tribute to who he was.  A man full of love, integrity, honesty and wisdom.  There was not a subject he could not discuss with you.  Much is made about how long winded some people can be, but in reality, it is the impatience of man that places the emphasis on "long winded."  Patience was something Warren had plenty of, never in a rush but always steady.

Warren P. Young, a Christian, a friend, a mentor and a soldier.  Gone from here but not forgotten.  Rest in Peace "Big Daddy"

The Life and Legacy of Warren Paul Young

Warren Paul Young (Wo Wo) was born on March 17, 1949 to the late Rebecca H. Dyson-Young (Sugar) and Herbert Young (Dusty) in Washington D.C.  He was the second of ten children born to this union.

Warren was raised in Southeast Washington D.C. and attended DC public schools until his graduation in 1967.  As a young man, Warren decided to enlist in the United States Air Force on July 25, 1968.

After attending basic training, his first assignment was Perin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas.  Little did he know he would meet the love of his life, Catherine Yvonne Jackson.  Upon returning from the Vietnam War, he quickly proposed to his "Honey" and they were married on November 23, 1971.  GOD blessed them with one child to treasure, Tiffany Nycole Young.

Warren and Catherine settled in Austin, Texas in 1983.  He served in the USAF for 23 years and proudly retired after serving in the Gulf War in 1991.  Warren was then hired by the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

He became a proud Grandfather for the first time in 1995 and again in 1999.  His grandchildren nicknamed him "Big Daddy or B.D." but soon friends and family all caught on.  Warren retired from the Travis County Sheriff's Office in January 2011 after battling Lymphoma since April 2010.

Warren was baptized at the Eastside Church of Christ in 1989.  He was involved in the Meals on Wheels program and the Tape Ministry.

On Friday March 4, 2011, GOD called him him home to rest.  He was surrounded by his devoted wife, loving daughter and grandchildren.
